LOOGOOTEE SCHOOLS CONTINUE TO EARN GRANT MONEY

Great things continue to happen at the Loogootee Community School Coporation.  The surging momentum has continued this year with multiple recognitions by state organizations of grant money that has been awarded.  In the past year, Loogootee Schools has been awarded over $150,000 in grants including:

    1. Digital Learning Grant (Indiana Department of Education) - $74,000

    2. Lilly Counseling Planning Grant - $30,000

    3. Graduation and Career Coach - $30,000/year recurring

    4. 2016 National School Lunch Program Equipment Grant - $20,000

The “Digital Learning Grant” supports districts ready to launch thoughtful 1:1 implementation plans. It also supports districts that have assessed their current 1:1 implementation and are prepared to take the next steps, such as expanding grade levels or replicating successes from pilot projects. Funds from this grant support corporations in providing professional development, developing content and expectations, creating avenues for parent and student communication, as well as purchasing devices.

The “Lilly Counseling Planning Grant” enables schools to promote and support the development and implementation of innovative counseling models to address the academic, and emotional counseling needs of K-12 students. The aim for the Counseling Initiative is to increase significantly the number of K-12 students in Indiana who are emotionally healthy, realize academic success, graduate from high school, obtain valuable postsecondary credentials, certifications and degrees necessary for meaningful employment, and are prepared to compete and prosper in the global society in which they will live and work.

The “Graduation and Career Coach Grant” gives Loogootee a tremendous opportunity to proactively work with “At-Risk” students at an early age to help them form plans for their future.  The Coach also mentors and helps students overcome struggles in the classroom to keep students on pace for graduation.  This program has seen multiple students turn their high school careers around with their grades and their sense of purpose as students are learning about career and college opportunities available to them.

The “National School Lunch Program Grant” is being used for upgrades in the Loogootee Elementary School Cafeteria.  Each Loogootee School building has seen multiple renovation projects in recent years and we are excited to continue this trend in our elementary cafeteria.
