Traffic and Safety Changes

Dear Parents,

 

Loogootee Community School Corporation is constantly reviewing our policies and procedures for school and student safety. With our first student day for the 18-19 school year being August 8th,  we want to make you aware of a few changes that will be in place for the start of school. In addition, the corporation has contacted a transportation specialist from the State of Indiana and that person will be visiting the school this August to see if any changes can be made to help improve traffic flow during arrival and dismissal from school. The corporation appreciates your patience in working through any upcoming changes to help improve school and student safety.

 

The following changes are for Loogootee Middle School and Loogootee High School:

  • No parent vehicle will be allowed in back of the building for any drop off or pick-up.

  • Parent drop off/pick-up for students in grades 5 through 8 will be at Door “E” on the north end of the Loogootee Middle School or you may drop off/pick-up at the Main Entrance to LHS.

  • Parent drop off / pick-up for all LHS students will continue to be at the Main Entrance to LHS.

There are no changes at this time for the Elementary School.

 

Please be patient and focused while driving on the school campus for everyone’s safety.

 

The State of Indiana recently provided a limited number of free hand held metal detectors to all school districts. Loogootee Community School Corporation did apply and we anticipate delivery in mid August. At the suggestion of the Indiana School Board Association, the Loogootee School Board of Trustees adopted a policy at their July meeting that provides guidelines for the use of such metal detectors to be used in certain circumstances. This policy is available on the Corporation Website (#7440.02) and has been inserted in each school handbook. Additional signage will also be placed in each building to make everyone aware of the policy.

 

The number one resource we have to keep all of us safe is for your child or you to communicate and share any information they have of any factual threats or a person wanting to do harm at school. Please encourage your child to share that information with adults in order to help prevent any incidents at school.  We also have a “Safety Reporting” link at the top of our school website.
