IDOE Grants LCSC Instructional Day Waiver

Due to the extreme weather conditions in many parts of Indiana, the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) has updated the Instructional Day Waiver Policy for the remainder of the 2017-2018 school year.

School corporations are expected to make up the first five canceled days using their pre-planned make-up days. After the fifth canceled day, the IDOE will waive one day for every two additional canceled days. After the fifth canceled day, school corporations will receive waivers for odd numbered cancellations, e.g., canceled days 7, 9, 11, etc.

School Safety Statement

Yesterday there was an act of senseless and tragic violence at a High School in Parkland, Florida that reminds us all of the importance of safety and security in schools.

We want to assure our families that our school has an updated school safety plan that has been developed in collaboration with law enforcement and state school safety officials.  We continually learn and evaluate best practices to strengthen our safety plans.

Loogootee Community Schools' staff have been trained on the specifics of this plan, and we conduct periodic drills to ensure that everyone knows their role during a crisis. LCSC has specific protocol for entry to our schools, and we appreciate the understanding of our parents as we enforce these protocols for the safety of our children.

We appreciate your support as we work together as a community to maintain a safe environment.  The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority.

Loogootee Schools will be 1:1 with Chromebooks for the 17-18 school year.

chromebooksStudents in grades K-6 will each be issued a Chromebook in a cart model.  What that means is that students will have access to their own Chromebook daily but will turn it back in at the end of the day to charge overnight.  If homework is issued that requires a Chromebook, students will be allowed to check it out to take home on a very limited basis.  More information regarding this will be provided by the building principal and/or classroom teacher.  Chromebooks in the cart model are protected with a hard case.

Students in grades 7-12 will be issued a Chromebook and may take it home daily to complete school work.  Students are expected to leave their chargers at home and charge their Chromebooks nightly.  Chromebooks in the take home model are protected with a “leave in” bag.  Students are expected to keep their Chromebooks in that bag at all times.
