Teacher Spotlight

Dave Smith is the 7th and 8th-grade History and Geography teacher that became a teacher because he wanted to make a positive difference in the lives of young people.  He went to college at Oakland City University and Indiana Wesleyan University.

His favorite part of teaching is watching his students succeed.  He started teaching when he started to coach basketball and then he decided to become a teacher.  He has been teaching at Loogootee for 22 years.  Mr. Smith did part of his student teaching at Loogootee Junior High.  After Mr. Sims retired, he interviewed for the job and got it.

His most memorable moment of teaching is several things, but one thing is watching your students as they leave junior high, move into high school, and then watch them as they move forward in their lives as success follows.

Many people have influenced Dave Smith such as his mother and father. His grandmother and Coach Jack Butcher have also had a large impact on his life.

For leisure, he loves to watch sports. His favorite team to watch is the St. Louis Cardinals. He loves to play golf and cards.  He also loves to travel.  He says that a good old power nap is the best way to relax.
