Garrett Williams Named Indiana University Wells Scholar Garrett Williams

Loogootee High School senior, Garrett Williams, has been named as an Indiana University Wells Scholar. This award is not only one of the most prestigious offered by any university in the nation but is also one of the most valuable. The Wells Scholarship includes full tuition, room and board, and expenses to study abroad as an IU student. This scholarship will also grant Garrett access to many of the special guests and guest speakers that come to the IU campus.

The Wells Scholars Programs, created in honor of the late IU Chancellor Herman B Wells, ranks among the most competitive and prestigious awards offered by any American university. On his 90th birthday, Chancellor Wells was officially presented with the prestigious scholarship program as a gift from his many friends and admirers. Since his death in the spring of 2000, this community of talented and dedicated young scholars has remained a permanent legacy of his educational vision.

Garrett is the son of Brian and Jennifer Williams. Garrett is the second student from Loogootee to receive this esteemed scholarship, following Brian Lannan who was awarded this scholarship in 1995. Garrett intends to study archaeology next year with other scholars in Indiana University's Hutton Honors College.
