Mark

Captain Mark Oesterreich, Crane Commander, spoke to students in grades 7-12 on Veteran's Day.  He also informed students where the future of Crane was heading, how students can become a part of their growth, and what fields to pursue after high school.  His message was one of Veteran appreciation and of a solid future for Crane and its surrounding communities.

Safe School Week

During America’s Safe School Week (October 21 to 27), the Loogootee Community School Corporation will be conducting multiple drills in each building to help our students and staff continue to train for different emergencies. One of the required training drills must be what is called a “Man-Made Disaster.” Suggested “man-made” training drills include preparation for potential bombs, active shooters hostage situations, carbon monoxide air pollution and other similar type incidents. This type of drill will usually require some type of “lockdown” where students and staff will secure themselves within their space barricade doors training for the ability to prevent or slow entry by a violent person.

For more information please click the link.

eLearning Day Scheduled for November 2nd.

Through our Digital Learning Initiatives, the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) has approved Loogootee Schools to utilize eLearning days for the 2018-19 school year.  You might remember the successful eLearning Day we had this past spring and how much our students enjoyed the experience.

LCSC will be utilizing Friday, November 2, 2018 as an eLearning Day.   We are choosing this date for an eLearning day due to the fact that a large portion of our student population will be at the state Beta Convention.

Please click here to read a letter explaining specifics of our eLearning Day on November 2nd.  Parents of students in grades K-4 will also receive a letter in your child’s backpack.   All information in the email and the letter coming home will also be posted on each of our school websites, school Facebook page and our school Twitter accounts.

If you have any questions, please contact your building’s school secretary for more information.

School Safety Statement

Yesterday there was an act of senseless and tragic violence at a High School in Parkland, Florida that reminds us all of the importance of safety and security in schools.

We want to assure our families that our school has an updated school safety plan that has been developed in collaboration with law enforcement and state school safety officials.  We continually learn and evaluate best practices to strengthen our safety plans.

Loogootee Community Schools' staff have been trained on the specifics of this plan, and we conduct periodic drills to ensure that everyone knows their role during a crisis. LCSC has specific protocol for entry to our schools, and we appreciate the understanding of our parents as we enforce these protocols for the safety of our children.

We appreciate your support as we work together as a community to maintain a safe environment.  The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority.

Loogootee Schools will be 1:1 with Chromebooks for the 17-18 school year.

chromebooksStudents in grades K-6 will each be issued a Chromebook in a cart model.  What that means is that students will have access to their own Chromebook daily but will turn it back in at the end of the day to charge overnight.  If homework is issued that requires a Chromebook, students will be allowed to check it out to take home on a very limited basis.  More information regarding this will be provided by the building principal and/or classroom teacher.  Chromebooks in the cart model are protected with a hard case.

Students in grades 7-12 will be issued a Chromebook and may take it home daily to complete school work.  Students are expected to leave their chargers at home and charge their Chromebooks nightly.  Chromebooks in the take home model are protected with a “leave in” bag.  Students are expected to keep their Chromebooks in that bag at all times.
